Sugar Sugar was played in the command module of Apollo 12 on cassette on the way to the moon in November 1969. That journey, across 240,000 miles (370,000 km), was punctuated by the sounds of Earth, including country music cassettes carried by Conrad and Bean and The Archies‘ bubblegum hit “Sugar, Sugar,” sneaked aboard by Gordon.
